The sword is fully handmade in the most traditional Japanese craftsmanship way. It is fully hand-forged, hand-polished and hand-sharpened by our experienced smith.They are best suited for practice in all sword arts, completion cutting, and collecting. Blade (Nagasa) This Blade is full handmade by professional smith, including hand forged, polished and sharpened. During the whole process, it is made in the traditional japanese craftsmanship way.The blade is made of 1095 high carbon steel and laminated in Maru structure. The Kissaki shape of the blade tip is Chu-kissaki. Bo-hi (blood groove) is added to each side of the blade which can not only lighten the blade but also balance it to achieve optimal performance.The blade is in full tang which greatly enhances the strength of the whole sword.The blade is strong enough to cut a thick bamboo tree and sharp enough to slice paper. Tsuba (Guard) This tsuba (guard) of the sword is made of iron with two Seppas spacer securing it.The Habaki (blade collar) is of brass composition. Tsuka (Handle) The tsuka (handle) is covered in white same (ray skin) and the Tsuka Ito (handle wrap) is best real black silk 10mm wide.The Fuchi (sleeve) and Kashira (buttcap) on the tsuka are made of alloy with matching Menuki on each side as an ornament, two Mekugi (peg) are nailed to secure the Tang of the sword. Sword can be disassembled by picking up the two Mekugi (peg). Saya (Sheath) This saya (sheath) of the sword is hard wooden and lacquered superior paint to high gloss the surface of it.The Sage-O is tied around the Kurikaka (knob) of the saya, the Koiguchi(scabbard mouth) and Kojiri(scabbard tip)has been hardened. Let me start by saying this sword is a absolute EXCEPTIONAL value for the money. Construction is superb and it does come extremely sharp. Not quite shaving sharp but a little time stropping this with the white compound and you can easily shave with it. The Saya (Scabbard) is well constructed, the fittings on it are nice but are not secured in place but that is just me nit picking. I love the iron Tsuba and yes the Tsuka (handle) is wrapped in genuine Rayskin and the ITO is Silk. The blade is very solid and is most definitely full tang. While this blade style is not meant for cutting I did a bit. It held up very well and edge retention was better than expected. I did abuse it a bit on some hard wood pieces and my form is a bit off but this blade was quite forgiving. No bends, no deformation of the edge, no chipping. It met my expectations and exceeded them by leaps and bounds. If you're looking for a gorgeous show piece that is battle ready sort of speak then look no further. If you are looking at getting into cutting then a traditional Katana would be more suited. I personally recommend their Spring Steel line as it tends to be the most forgiving to user error and take the most abuse. If you're looking for something to display and hack stuff up here and there and you like this blade style then by all means, go for it. It will hold up but as with any blade, you can damage it. Keeping a nice edge is also important so buy some raw leather, make a strop and learn how to use it. You will definitely be glad you did. So, all in all LyueSword has impressed me. I will be purchasing many more of their products in the future.
