Love how it stays in place while in use. It is very easy to use & clean as well. Its my first slicer. Works fine for the price. I'm sure the higher quality ones work better, but this is fine for my small needs.I got this machine because I realized I was spending too much money in ham for sandwiches and I realized if I had the machine at home I could buy the big ham pieces and cut it at home for great savings. I decided to give it a shot and I was a little worried since the price was too good to be true. I don't regret at all giving a chance to this machine. I use it to cut ham and cheese for my sandwiches. Now we buy the big ham and cheese pieces and cut it ourselves and save it in the freezer in various portions that last for months. Definitely saves us some money. It is easy to clean and store. I haven't had any issues using it and it comes with this plastic clear piece that helps you cut your food with your hand at a safe distance from the blade. It is very user friendly and of great quality materials. I personally think that the cable for connecting it to the electricity is kind of short, so make sure you have a safe and steady table space with an electricity outlet nearby. So far I have used it to cut turkey ham and cheddar cheese. I use it in the #1 setting so the pieces are nice and thin. Works great. It is worth the investment. I would definitely recommend this product. I did not receive any compensation or discount for this review and it represents my honest and unbiased opinion. I write my reviews with the only purpose of informing potential buyers and help them make informed decisions.Overall it slices nice , but the slice was slipping and sliding while trying to sliceOverall, I am happy with the slicer. I've not had it long, but I've put it through the paces cutting a variety of meats and cheeses. It cuts pretty well, delivers even slices, and is easy to clean up. That said, I do have a couple of issues. First of all, I cure my own bacon and was hoping to be able to cut typical bacon length slices. The side of the sliding platform prevents you from cutting anything more than about five inches long, though. If you remove the platform, you may be able to use it still, but I don't think the bottom of the blade would cut through the bottom of what you're slicing. I'm still trying to figure out a way around this without simply cutting my meat down to those widths. Secondly, it strains cutting through block cheese. I sprayed a little cooking spray on the back side and blade to help the cheese slide better, but it still gets caught up a bit. Exercise extreme caution when slicing cheeses. Given my issues with the length of slices, I kind of wish I'd sprung for a different slicer. What a decent little slicer for a great price, so far this thing has sliced whatever I have thrown at it, ham, cheese, frozen chicken breast "boneless"Snaps apart for easy cleaning, has suction cups on bottom for grip to the surface, it not a high RPM spin, but does have some serious torque for such a small motor, the back stop is a little flimsy and will cut uneven if you push to hard, the plastic safety guard is kind of cheap and thin, but I don't use it anyway..if it lasts for a year at the rate I use it, then it will pay for itself..Probably cut on average about 20 lbs a week, our last slicer was about 150.00 and lasted two years before the motor burnt out.. Will update as it gets put to the punishment.Very easy to disassemble for cleaning. as shown in pictures.Plastic parts make thinner slicing difficult. The machine started to smell like burnt electrical wire after i cut about 3 pounds of ham but nothing was smoking, burning or malfunctioning. Next time ill try cut 2 pounds at a time and see if that helps the smell. Thats the only con really. Pros are the price its super cheap, the quality its not flimsy and it is a decent size. Last but not least it is easy to clean. There is a black part on the blade that u turn and the blade comes right off easy. You have to mess when the knob to get your desired thickness but overall you'll love the machine. This slicer exceeded my expectations. I have owned two name brand consumer slicers in the past, and found both semi usable. I originally bought them to make uniform jerky slices and shave ham, but I ended up going back to using a chefs knife for jerky as it was just as fast and I didn't have to semi-freeze the meat or clean the slicer afterwards. I bought a non-serrated blade for the second slicer for shaving ham, but deli thin was just a pipe dream... :-(Amazon had a great price on an open box Nesco FS-200 and the reviews are good, so I decided to give it a shot. Maybe it's because mine was an open box, but my machine did not come with a "food pusher" to hold the food and protect the fingers at the end of a cut. When it came in I decided the first test would be a 5 lb ham I had in the fridge. Wow! Even with the serrated blade I got paper thin shaved ham I could nearly see through. The slices were uniform in thickness and I did not have to flip the ham around like the old slicers to avoid end of cut tears. Very impressed with shaving ham.Yesterday I sliced 500 grams pepperoni, 1 Kg Canadian bacon, one cucumber and 400 grams cheddar for sub sandwiches for 5 people. Everything including the cheese sliced very well. When I finished the motor was fairly warm. It also got warm when I did the 5 lbs of ham, but that was at least 10 minutes or more of shaving paper thin ham as fast as I could push it through. My old slicers got hot as well, but this is to be expected as these are consumer grade machines. The blade and rolling food carriage come off for easy cleanup. There was surprisingly very little food on the backside of the blade. This was a real problem on my other slicers as food always got into the backside of the blade and into the drive gears. I had to clean the gears with a toothpick and Q-Tip. This Nesco FS-200 is far superior to my "other" slicers in every way.To me, thin shaved meats just taste better than an equivalent amount of thick sliced meat. I honestly did not think any consumer grade slicer could shave meat this thin and uniform. If all I use this slicer for is shaving meat it will save trips to the deli and pay for itself in no time. I'm very happy with this slicer and hope it lasts for many years to come.An Update: Three years later, and this slicer is still going strong. The blade now makes a squeeking noise when it gets hot after a lot of slicing, but it still works great and cuts paper thin when I want it to. I still use it a lot, and if and when it finally does pack it in I will be happy knowing I have gotten my moneys worth and I will promptly order another. You can't compare it with a slicer that costs several thousand dollars but it is a nice kitchen slicer. If you want to slice prosciutto, set the thickness to 0 and apply a little pressure. After a few minutes you will get the hang of it. It slices frozen meat very nicely, just have to go slow. All in all a very good slicer for the price.I was so hopeful that I could use this slicer to create nice and thin cuts of my homemade roast beef. While cutting slices at 8 or 9, worked well and I was able to get smooth cuts, anything thinner ended up shredding. :( I tried cutting the meat while cold with no luck, then froze it a bit, better but not good. And a second roast that was warm - nope. All of them shredded if I cut with a smaller size than 8.I can achieve thinner cuts by hand, so I guess I will just get my knives sharpened. It is too bad, I was really looking forward to using it for my handmade lunch meats.POSITIVES- if I were looking for thicker slices this worked well at 8+- it was easy to set up and easy to use- easy to cleanNEGATIVES- thinner slices were not successful- the machine does not suction well to the counter and moved away from me as I run through the slicesMainly use for slicing raw meat to make jerky and works wonderful for this. Not as fast as the big commercial units and you shouldn't expect that anyway. Slices up 5 lbs. of raw beef in a couple of minutes. Nice even slices.Works great also for slicing up cooked meat for sandwiches in however thick you want it. Easy to clean.I was so excited to get this slicer that I used it the very next day. It was terrible! I had it packed back up and headed back to the seller the day after that. The glider that holds the meat did not move smoothly. The meat wouldn't cut. All it did was get caught up in the slucer and spin around with the blade. It took so long to cut a pork tenderloin that I could have done it much fastwr by hand and cut it better myself.
